Hi, and welcome to a brand new corner of the internet for me! I’ve been toying with the idea of Substack for almost a year now and decided that 2025 was the time to act.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Karen. I started a blog, Lovely Girlie Bits, in September 2010. Almost 15 years later, creating content is now my job, be it for myself or for brands.
Why Substack?
I think one of the reasons why I’m still here after all this time is that I’ve evolved as best I can as the years have gone on. I love trying new methods when it comes to creating content and connecting with my community, and Substack seemed to be the next step and the perfect mix of being able to write and having people read it.
With the evolution of AI, Google and search results, people are less likely to find my blog as the AI results are ranked higher in those search results, pushing my posts further down the list.
I want to share content with you without feeling like I’m wasting time, especially if you won’t find it. Instagram doesn’t like when we share links in our stories as it directs people away from their platform, so by setting up this Substack, I can appear in your inboxes regularly, and you can save the posts you like!
What to expect here
Here, I’ll have some posts for free subscribers, even more posts, both written and video, for paid subscribers, and a gorgeous, cosy community for like-minded people.
On A Lovely Life, I want to share more of myself and what I love, both beauty and beyond. When I started Lovely Girlie Bits, I was beauty-obsessed and still am. But I’ve also grown personally, and my interests have evolved. I’m best known for my beauty reviews and still love trying products out, so the in-depth reviews won’t go anywhere. I want you to be able to make informed decisions when figuring out if a product is for you or not. It can be overwhelming, and with Instagram’s algorithm, my reviews and demos aren’t always shown to you. So here you’ll be able to learn about the products and read or listen to my thoughts.
I’ve been documenting my gardening journey on YouTube, and I’ve always said that if I can get someone to feel the joy and contentment I feel when I’m out in the garden, I’ll be a happy camper. Beauty has changed my life, and so has gardening, and I want to use this space to encourage and inspire you to try your hand at growing a few bits, whether it’s flowers or food.
So, here on A Lovely Life, I want us to have exactly that. Life can be hard and challenging, and the world sometimes feels like it’s on fire. But here’s where we’ll celebrate and discover those glimmers, the little things that make life lovely, and I’m excited to have you here!
